The low mas end of the young cluster IC 2391
By collecting optical and infrared photometry, as well as medium resolution spectroscopy, we have discovered a sample of low mass stars and brwon dwarfs in the young cluster IC2391. Using the lithium depletion boundary near the substellar limit, we have estimated the age of the cluster as ∼50 Myr. We have also estudied the Hα emission in this sample.

Context. The so-called lithium depletion boundary (LDB) provides a secure and independent tool for deriving the ages of young open clusters. Aims. In this context, our goal is to determine membership for a sample of 147 photometrically selected candidates of the young open cluster IC 4665 and to use confirmed members to establish an age based on the LDB. Methods. Employing the FLAMES multi-obje...
متن کاملA Variability Study of Pre - Main Sequence Stars in the Extremely Young Cluster IC 348
The extremely young cluster IC 348 has been monitored in the Cousins I band with a 0.6 m telescope at Wesleyan’s Van Vleck Observatory. Photometry of 150 stars was obtained on 76 images taken on 27 separate nights during the period December, 1998, through March, 1999. As expected, spectral characteristics largely determine the nature of a star’s variability in this cluster. None of the stars wi...
متن کاملLow-mass binaries in the young cluster IC 348: implications for binary formation and evolution
We report on a near-infrared adaptive optics survey of a sample of 66 low-mass members of the premain sequence stellar cluster IC 348. We find 12 binary systems in the separation range 0. 1–8, excluding 3 probable background projected companions. An estimate of the number of faint undetected companions is derived, before we evaluate the binary frequency in this cluster. In the range logP =5.0–7...
